What stands between you and someone you did not ask to hear from.
Who can reach you
A person can only message you if you share a space with them, or they are one of your contacts. A stranger cannot send you a direct message.
Blocking
Block a person and they cannot message you, nudge you, send you a friend request or ping you. Their messages in a channel you share fold away. How to block someone.
Reports
- You can report a message or a person, with a reason: spam, harassment, hate, sexual content, violence or threats, self-harm, a scam, someone under 13, or something else.
- A message in a space goes to that space’s moderators, and to us. A direct message or a person goes to us only.
- Moderators never see who sent a report.
- The message is saved as it was when it was reported.
What a space’s moderators can do
Delete a message, time a person out (they can read but not send) for up to a week, kick them, or ban them. A space keeps an audit log, and its owner decides who moderates. Roles and permissions.
Pace
Messages, reactions, invites, friend requests and joins all have a speed limit. Someone flooding a channel, or sending invites to everyone, is slowed down by the app itself.
Age
You must be 13 or older to use MySquare, or older where the law where you live requires it. We ask for a date of birth when you sign up; it is never shown to other people. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we close it. We do not ask for an ID or a face scan to join, chat or call: exactly what we ask for.
Rooms without an account
A room started from the home page is small and short on purpose: 45 minutes, up to 5 people, voice only, and nothing is recorded. A guest’s name cannot be a link or claim to be staff. The host can remove a person and end the room, anyone can report it, and we can end any room or close the door altogether.
Recording
A call in a space can only be recorded where that space allows it and by someone with the permission. When a recording starts, everyone in the call is told.
